MILANO UNICA BEYOND THE COLLECTIONS: A JOURNEY THROUGH MATERIALS, EDUCATION AND TRAINING, RESEARCH, AND INNOVATION

The theme-based areas of the 43rd edition of Milano Unica provide visitors with a content-rich experience

A visit to Milano Unica means discovering the fabric and accessory collections that will shape upcoming fashion seasons while engaging with a network of competencies, projects, and organizations committed to the industry’s development.

Alongside the exhibition areas, the Special Areas offer visitors opportunities for in-depth exploration focused on promoting raw materials, education and training, creative research, technological innovation, and sustainability.

The Special Areas are spread across the event’s various halls to provide visitors with an enhanced, content-rich experience featuring complementary perspectives and fostering dialogue among companies, international associations, schools, and industry organizations.

The Skills of the Future

Next-generation education and training are essential for the industry's growth. This is why Milano Unica hosts organizations that highlight the increasingly close dialogue between academia and industry.

Accademia Costume & Moda presents projects developed by students in the Master’s program in Fabrics Innovation Design, in collaboration with leading Italian textile companies. ITS TAM Biella brings the A.Q.A.’S project to the trade show —an example of the fusion of fashion, design, craftsmanship, and manufacturing.

Raw Materials, Traceability, and Sustainability

A significant portion of the Special Areas is dedicated to organizations that promote fibers and materials through quality programs, certification, and traceability.

From the Alliance for European Flax-Linen & Hemp — a key reference point for the European flax and hemp supply chain— to COTTON USA™, Supima®, and the Egyptian Cotton Association, representing the finest cotton fibers—to Aquilana, Zentera™, and The Woolmark Company for wool—visitors can explore the characteristics, certifications, and development prospects of some of the leading natural fibers used by the international textile industry.

Alongside these organizations, the trade show features companies dedicated to developing innovative and sustainable materials, such as Bemberg™ and Lenzing, which are leaders in research on cellulosic fibers.

Circular Economy and New Supply Chain Models

The sector’s transformations are increasingly driven by optimizing existing resources and reducing waste.

This is the focus of the activities of Nona Source, a platform created within the LVMH Group to recover surplus materials from luxury fashion houses, and the Associazione Cardato Riciclato Pratese, which exemplifies one of the most representative applications of the circular economy in the textile sector.

Associations and the Industrial System

The Special Areas also host organizations that represent and support the entire supply chain.

ACIMIT brings the Italian textile machinery sector to the trade show, while Confindustria Moda offers a privileged vantage point on the dynamics affecting the sector at the national and international levels. In addition, UKFT is also present, representing the British textile industry and its ability to combine manufacturing tradition with innovation.

Innovation, Services, and Information for the Industry

Milano Unica is also committed to providing companies with tools that help them navigate the changes in the sector. Startup Textile Connection offers an overview of the new ideas and technologies transforming the supply chain, while MU Info & Style and MU Trade Press provide useful resources for creative research, trend analysis, and professional development.

Creative Research and Visions for the Future

Milano Unica features also a space dedicated to experimentation and inspiration.

With TheCube Archive: Punk Is All Around, Milano Unica presents an immersive installation that interprets the Fall/Winter 2027/28 Tendenze through a language that challenges conventions and reflects on the relationship among materials, the body, and creative expression.

MU Sintesi: the Event’s Material Map

The MU Sintesi Areas, distributed along the cross aisle connecting the event’s four halls, serve as a unifying thread linking all these experiences together.

Here, each exhibitor presents a representative selection of its offerings, providing visitors with an immediate overview of the collections on display at the trade show through a comprehensive catalog of materials organized by product category.

An experience Beyond the Exhibition

The Special Areas round out the Milano Unica visitor experience by providing opportunities for in-depth exploration, discussion, and discovery.

Together, these elements help tell the story not only of the products on display but also of the expertise, processes, research, and relationships that make the textile and accessories supply chain one of the most advanced and dynamic systems on the international stage.
