FROM TEXTILE WASTE TO CARPET

Milano Unica, Wetex and Alma for a more sustainable trade show

From waste to resource

Textile waste produced by the fashion industry is one of the major factors causing environmental pollution. Milano Unica has long recognized sustainability as one of its core values and, in line with its commitment, has opted for a solution targeting the reuse and responsible use of resources.

All the textile samples of the past editions of Milano Unica and on display in the Tendenze Sostenibilità Area, and those used for the editorial projects, will be recovered and transformed into new resources through a process of textile waste recycling that contributes concretely to making the trade show more sustainable.

The collaboration between Wetex and Alma S.p.A.

The project was developed in collaboration with Wetex, a company responsible for the collection and recycling of the materials, and Alma S.p.A., a company producing carpets from textile waste.

This is an example of circular economy applied to the trade show context, where waste is turned into a resource and is reused as a furnishing material.

Walking on the collections of the past

In the MU Tendenze Sostenibilità Area, sustainability is to be seen also under the feet of visitors: the carpet visitors walk on is produced with the textile samples collected from the past editions of Milano Unica.

This approach testifies to how circularity can translate into concrete, visible and daily actions, contributing to reducing waste and promoting a more responsible use of resources.
