42ND EDITION OF MILANO UNICA: A RECAP OF THE CONTENT AND KEY MOMENTS

A recap of the 42nd edition of Milano Unica

 

The 42nd edition of Milano Unica was held at Fiera Milano (Rho) from January 20 to 22, 2026, showcasing the Spring-Summer 2027 collections of high-end fabrics and accessories.

 

The edition recorded a 25% increase in the attendance of European exhibitors and an increased participation of international buyers. In particular, the United States (+13.5%) and France (+8.5%) were the most represented countries overall. A growing number of buyers was also recorded, specifically from Korea (+10%), Canada (+6.6%), Germany (+8%), and Japan (+2.4%), while the participation of buyers from Great Britain and Spain was in line with the February 2025 edition.

 

Exhibitors reported widespread satisfaction with the quality of the customers and the high profile of the professionals attending the trade show.

MU Tendenze Sostenibilità

Once again, the MU Tendenze Sostenibilità Area attracted a large number of exhibitors. 

The samples on display were selected based on five pillar values: chemical safety, reduction in the use of natural resources and circular economy, social justice, climate action, and biodiversity protection. In addition, specific organizational characteristics of the participating companies were also highlighted, spanning from the implementation of sustainability management systems to product environmental footprint declarations, and traceability systems.

MU Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony on January 20 began with a minute's silence in memory of Valentino Garavani, at the invitation of Simone Canclini, President of Milano Unica.

Institutional greetings followed from Attilio Fontana, President of the Lombardy Region, Maurizio Forte, Central Director for Exports at ITA, International Trade Agency, and Giovanni Bozzetti, President of Fondazione Fiera Milano.

The round table, moderated by Nicola Porro, saw the participation of representatives from the institutional, business, academic, and media worlds, with speeches dedicated to the role of raw materials, training, communication, and the premium and luxury sector scenario. The ceremony concluded with a speech by Valentino Valentini, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.

 

MU Cocktail

At the end of the first day, the MU Cocktail provided a networking opportunity for exhibitors, buyers, and guests.

The MU Back to School event, dedicated to dialogue between the worlds of education and business, was held on the third day of the trade show. The designer invited for this edition was Giuseppe Di Morabito, designer and brand owner, who recounted his professional career in conversation with Federico Rocca, Fashion Editor of Vanity Fair.
