MU COSMETIC: MILANO UNICA PRESENTS THE SPRING-SUMMER 2027 TENDENZE
A meeting point between textiles and cosmetics to explore new forms of expression and sensoriality
On October 16, Milano Unica presented the Spring-Summer 2027 Tendenze with a dedicated event -- MU Cosmetic – a visual and sensory narrative that puts the body experience and its relationship with matter at the center.

MU Cosmetic explores where textiles meet cosmetics; two worlds united by their relationship with the body. They envelop it, protect it, and enhance its identity. Research highlights the shared sensory dimension — texture, colors, finishes — and the rituals that accompany the act of dressing and skincare. The fabric becomes cosmetic: it moisturizes, provides comfort, releases scent, and becomes an extension of care, evoking an intimate and refined luxury that combines beauty, pleasure, and production transparency.
The talk -- MU Cosmetic: Textile Sensations – was opened by Simone Canclini, President of Milano Unica, who underscored the excellent results obtained by the event. The event’s success is the result of the contribution of all exhibitors and producers, who develop their collections of the world’s most beautiful textiles and accessories with great passion, heart, mind, and hands.
Simone Marchetti, Vanity Fair European Editorial Director, expanded on concepts intertwining fashion and society with insights regarding the invisible risks of “information pollution,” making a comparison with methane. Methane gas is odorless, difficult to detect, but potentially harmful. Similarly, he observed, fast fashion can have deep and hidden impacts. Marchetti invited participants to return to quality, in clothing and communication, promoting relationships based on craftsmanship and competency.

During the talk, Stefano Fadda, Artistic Director of Milano Unica, explained the genesis of the MU Cosmetic project. A special union between textiles and cosmetics, two worlds that share their contact with the skin and the ability of offering sensory and tactile experiences. For this season, research will be focused on enhancing these connections, along with creativity and responsible manufacturing.
Antonio Mancinelli, Fashion & Culture Editor of QN Group, recalled the long tradition that combines fashion and cosmetics: from the ancient bathing practices using officinal herbs to contemporary smart textile technologies. He underscored how textiles today do not limit themselves to “covering” our body, but accompany it, by stimulating sensations and promoting well-being, tracing the direction of an increasingly intimate and silent luxury.
Antonio Matozzo and Massimo Monteforte of Milano Unica Style Commission, provided their industrial perspectives, underscoring the relevance of research in the field of high-performance materials and high-quality processes. Comfort, attention to sensoriality and innovation confirm to be fundamental elements also in menswear.
The presentation ended with a detailed explanation of the three themes of the Spring/Summer 2027 Tendenze - Natural, Shadows and Sun — through narratives concentrating on the corresponding categories of textiles and accessories, textures, finishes and color charts.

The Fashion Award of the International Lab of Mittelmoda concluded the event with a fashion show of the finalists from all over the world. The competition received a record high of proposals: sketches, concepts, ideas and prototypes of textiles that demonstrated the creativity and innovation ability of a new generation of designers. The award ceremony delivered several awards offered by industry districts and associations. Among these, Simone Canclini, President of Milano Unica, announced the winner of the Textile and Materials Award, underscoring the importance of continuous promotion and support of excellence and experimentation in the contemporary textiles industry.
