Milano Unica and International Lab of Mittelmoda - The Fashion Award
Where trends take shape, talents shine
The presentation of the Milano Unica Tendenze for Spring/Summer 2027, held on October 16 at Garage 21 in Milan, was followed by the Fashion Award of International Lab of Mittelmoda. The award ceremony accompanied the biannual event that precedes each edition of the trade show, aimed at exhibitors, buyers, and the international industry press. Following the talk dedicated to the themes of the Tendenze, MU COSMETIC: Textile Sensations, curated by the Milano Unica Style Commission, and explored in depth by Simone Marchetti, European Editorial Director of Vanity Fair and Antonio Mancinelli, Fashion and Culture Editor of QN Group, the stage was given to the new creative talents selected by International Lab of Mittelmoda, now in its 31st edition. The show, presenting the 26 finalists, and the award ceremony for the winners, testified to the relevance of the dialogue developed between the textile industry and education, in the spirit of sharing common values such as quality, sustainability, and design culture. These principles have always guided Milano Unica in promoting a creative, more responsible, and conscious future, including in the concept of continuity of the fashion system and its entire supply chain.
The event represented a meeting point between two complementary entities: Milano Unica, the benchmark trade show for high-end textiles and fashion accessories, where trends emerge, and with new creative ideas that MU Cosmetic explored through the connection between body and matter with a sensory, responsible, and innovative approach, and International Lab of Mittelmoda, the international scouting showcase that has been promoting and supporting emerging talents from fashion schools around the world for over 30 years.
“As President of Milano Unica, I strongly believe in our trade show’s responsibility to continue to be a point of reference for the evolution of the Italian textile and fashion accessories industry. Projects like MU Cosmetic demonstrate our commitment to pushing the boundaries of creative research, fostering cross-pollination between diverse fields, such as cosmetics and textiles, which share a common drive towards innovation, beauty, and sustainability.
The collaboration with International Lab of Mittelmoda, supported by the Italian Textile Foundation, which also collaborates in the organization of our trade show, goes in this direction: combining education, research, and industry to build a future based on the quality and creativity of the new generations. Only the continuous and continued dialogue can regenerate the fashion system and keep the excellence of Made-in-Italy alive in a constantly changing global scenario.
I want to thank the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Trade Agency ICE, which have always contributed to building the success of our activities”, said Simone Canclini, President of Milano Unica and of Fondazione del Tessile Italiano.
“Our industry’s assets are willpower, vision, innovation, and determination to invest with an unfailing, responsible approach. Quality is an irremissible condition, a fundamental value of Made-in-Italy. Sustainability is not just a buzzword, but a real journey through process development, responsibility, and complexity that the supply chain successfully managed to face by relying on its rigorous and structured approach. In this context, the synergy with Milano Unica gains even more relevance. Creating a bridge between industrial expertise and emerging talents means preparing for a more responsible and competitive future for Italian fashion,” added Matteo Marzotto, President of International Lab of Mittelmoda.
This event confirms Milano Unica’s identity as a cultural and industry-specific platform for the integration of research, education, and creativity, offering professionals and new generations the tools and opportunities to imagine the future of Made-in-Italy.
