MILANO UNICA PRESENTS THE SPRING/SUMMER 2028 TENDENZE: MU METAMORPHOSIS

An exclusive preview of the fabrics and accessories for the upcoming season

Milano Unica presents MU Metamorphosis, the Spring/Summer 2028 Tendenze

On October 21, 2026, Milano Unica presented MU Metamorphosis, the concept behind the Spring-Summer 2028 Tendenze for high-end fabrics and accessories at Garage 21 in Milan.

The Tendenze event offers a preview of the creative directions shaping upcoming collections. It provides a forum for dialogue between stylistic research, textile innovation, and manufacturing, offering companies and industry professionals new insights into the evolving landscape of fashion.

Metamorphosis lies at the heart of this edition. It is conceived as a transformation that affects both aesthetics and the way we live, consume, and perceive the value of products. This journey points towards lighter materials, artisanal craftsmanship, and technical solutions capable of adapting to new needs.

The talk: Metamorphosis as a key to understanding fashion

The presentation opened with remarks by Simone Canclini, President of Milano Unica, who emphasized the central role of fabrics and accessories in the creation of fashion products, as well as the importance of showcasing and communicating the expertise of the entire supply chain.

Against a complex market backdrop, Canclini stressed the importance of maintaining a long-term vision by investing in the environment, people, and future generations. This commitment goes hand in hand with preserving Italy’s manufacturing heritage and the expertise underpinning the “Made in Italy” label.

Next, Sara Sozzani Maino, Creative Director Fondazione Sozzani, explored the theme of change in contemporary fashion. Her remarks focused on the role of younger generations, the industry’s collective responsibility, and the search for innovative materials.

Sozzani Maino underscored that evolution must begin with an understanding and appreciation of what already exists. The ability to innovate also depends on fostering a dialogue between tradition and the future, and between new creative visions and craftsmanship.

MU Metamorphosis: Spring/Summer 2028 fabrics and accessories

Stefano Fadda, Artistic Director of Milano Unica, presented the MU Metamorphosis concept, developed in collaboration with the Milano Unica Style Committee.

Nature and its ability to transform and regenerate provide the starting point for the research. This vision is developed around three principles: lightness, celebration of craftsmanship, and adaptability.

The project interprets these principles through three themes, each offering its own exploration of fabrics, accessories, surfaces, and colors.

LIGHTWEAR — The Metamorphosis of Lightness

Impalpable fabrics, ultra-fine wools, fluid silks, and transparent surfaces. Lightness becomes a physical and sensory quality, with materials that flow with movement and new interpretations of summer elegance.

HANDWEAR — The Metamorphosis of Craftsmanship

Three-dimensional embroidery, woven structures, patchwork, regenerated denim, and embossed finishes highlight the artisanal expertise. The fabric gain depth, while details become a distinctive features of the product.

TECHWEAR — The Metamorphosis of Protection

Technical wool yarns, microfibers, stretch fabrics, and breathable membranes come together to create a dynamic wardrobe. Technology is integrated into materials through lightweight and functional solutions, designed to adapt to everyday life.

Special attention was also devoted to wool for the summer season, reinterpreted through ultralight constructions, airy surfaces, and new processing techniques. Research expands the possibilities of using wool beyond traditional seasonal boundaries.

Overall, MU Metamorphosis presents a vision of fashion in which sustainability, material research, innovation, and manufacturing expertise come together to shape the Spring-Summer 2028 collections.

MU Metamorphosis takes shape in the exhibition design

The concept behind the Spring-Summer 2028 Tendenze was also reflected in the exhibition design at Garage 21.

The exhibition space brought the research journey to life through a presentation of physical fabrics, accessories, and prototypes created by the companies involved in the project.

The materials were displayed on tables dedicated to the three themes, allowing visitors to closely explore the characteristics of the surfaces, finishes, and different material interpretations.

Illustrations by François Berthoud complemented the journey, adding a visual narrative to MU Metamorphosis, and creating a dialogue between textile research and artistic expression.

Mittelmoda: A Platform for New Fashion Talent

The Tendenze event was followed by the fashion show and awards ceremony of the 32nd edition of International Lab of Mittelmoda – The Fashion Award, the international competition dedicated to young designers and fashion students.

The event provides an opportunity to bring together education, experimentation, and the industry through the creative visions of emerging talent.

Mittelmoda’s presence further reinforced one of the key messages of the talk: investing in young people means contributing to the evolution of the industry while fostering dialogue between new ideas and established expertise.
