Biopolymers

A new generation of materials for fabrics and accessories
Technologies - MU Sustainable Innovation

These are polymers obtained from renewable sources, specifically: sugars and starches extracted from vegetation. Created to replace plastic produced from oil, biopolymers have revolutionized the packaging and disposable products market and their consumption is growing also thanks to legislative interventions and "plastic free" initiatives. A new generation is developing and it concerns the fashion world: accessories and fabrics. This category often includes niche materials, the results of experiments and start-ups, as evidenced by the growing variety of products made with synthetic leather of vegetable origin obtained by subjecting biomasses to bacterial or enzymatic treatments.
