The Sustainability Area at Milano Unica July

Commitment, innovation and new opportunities for businesses

The search for innovative solutions to reduce the environmental and social impact of products and production processes by improving sustainability is a commitment that leading textile businesses are called upon to make firmly and permanently.

Sustainability must be added to the traditional factors that define both the quality of a fabric or accessory and the reputation of the business producing it in the market.
The market of fabrics and accessories is evolving rapidly and emerging attention to sustainability is creating new opportunities for the businesses operating in this sector.

Milano Unica has taken up the challenge of exploring innovation, quality and a new vision of the future with a restyled, improved and extended Sustainability Area - within the "Tendenze" Area - which attracted significant, above-expectations interest in the past edition, with the participation of over 50 entrepreneurs, who presented more than 250 samples of textiles or accessories selected for the use of sustainable materials and production processes.

This section showcases – within the "Tendenze" Area – the proposals of leading entrepreneurs, with a panorama of textiles and accessories that meet the sustainability demand of the market.

The rapidly evolving scenario also generates a greater need for transparency on the requirements and information regarding the sustainability performance of the products. The multiplying market standards and conformity requirements by clients and the use – often unsubstantiated – of statements on sustainable product features often makes sustainability a maze in which it is very difficult to orient oneself.

To facilitate visitors’ decision-making, the textiles and accessories presented in the Sustainability Area have been classified based on categories that reflect the main segments of sustainable innovation. In addition, in this edition, the Sustainability Area table provides visitors with access to more detailed information about the samples through their smartphones and tablets.
