"Creating a collection means carefully analyzing the lifestyle and trends of new generations."
Francesco Barberis Canonico, Creative Director

Where do you get inspiration and how does the creative process unfold in the development of your collections?

We are inspired by the world, through our travels, magazines, the web and especially our regular contact with international customers.

This allows us to learn about trend evolution and consumer needs in various markets. We never forget our heritage: our historic archive at Prativero, with 2,500 volumes, is an inexhaustible source of inspiration for our designers.

The archive includes products going as far back as 1846, i.e. not only the Vitale Barberis Canonico collection, but also 19th and 20th century trend books, registers with the orders placed by European tailors and volumes produced by long defunct wool mills.

Creating a collection means carefully analyzing the lifestyle and trends of new generations. It means never taking things for granted, studying the present and the future and managing change with flexibility and consistency, striking a perfect balance between classicism and innovation.

What are the differentiating traits of your collections?

Contemporaneity and "Classic with a twist" are the key style elements for Vitale Barberis Canonico.

VITALE BARBERIS CANONICO'S MISSION IS BLENDING ITALIAN CONTEMPORARY SAVOIR-FAIRE WITH THE TRADITIONAL BRITISH STYLE

With over 5,000 variants produced every year by our designer team and in its role of designer behind the designer, Vitale Barberis Canonico's mission is blending Italian contemporary savoir-faire with the traditional British style, to offer the most demanding customers the best fabric in the world.

The twist is the element of differentiation, the unique and personal touch, that brings innovation to traditional fabrics, making them contemporary.

How many collections do you produce per year? Do they feature special elements or characteristics depending on the seasons?

We present two collections each year, including different lines to meet different needs and functions.

The Classica line offers iconic fabrics for formal wear, which are always enriched with new proposals. The Vintage line comprises fabrics for jackets and outerwear items with a more casual taste.

The Earth, Wind and Fire line combines the classic fabrics of Vitale Barberis Canonico with membranes or treatments designed to deliver new performance.

The Supersonic line is dedicated to the man who travels the world and offers wrinkle-free, stretch and high-performance fabrics. The H.O.P.E. line. (How to Optimize People and Environment) line is the most recent, featuring fabrics with a low environmental impact.

How is your company responding to the uncertainties of this period? What changes are being implemented?

We are working on digitization in order to give our customers the additional option of viewing our collections digitally. We are also leveraging on an increasingly customer-oriented communication and support geared to developing even closer collaboration with our customers.
