A journey through the 27th edition

The high appreciation expressed by exhibitors and buyers confirms, once again, the quality of Milano Unica’s offering, which is becoming increasingly relevant for the textiles/apparel industry. The main themes of this edition were: the "Tendenze", innovation and synergies among the supply chain players, opening towards emerging markets and, above all, sustainability.

We asked some entrepreneurs and managers of the participating businesses to give their opinion on the 27th edition of Milano Unica.

The "Tendenze" Area, always the creative heart of Milano Unica, presented the textiles and accessories proposed by exhibitors and inspired by the “Nations to Nations” theme. An invitation to work on the creative value of bringing different peoples and traditions together on three proposed concepts: - Organic Grunge, Handcrafted Essentialism and Techno Romantic – presented in a striking installation enhanced by light shows, music and theme-based videos. The Sustainability Project served as the leitmotif for the different activities organized by Milano Unica, starting with the Opening Ceremony, which launched the “Is our future sustainable?” theme. The Sustainability Area has tripled compared to the first edition in February 2018, with 123 companies presenting over 750 samples of sustainably produced textiles and accessories.

Buyers benefited from the service that enabled them to receive the product cards of the samples on display via email in real time. In three days, nearly 6,000 product cards were emailed. This is evidence of how sustainability has now become a concrete, widely shared concept.

With the Events Areas and the Special Areas, Milano Unica offered a unique and exclusive journey through the best proposals of style, trend and innovation in the Italian and international manufacturing of textiles and accessories: the Filo Trend Area, with the trends upstream of the production of textiles; the Designers Area and the Vintage Area, with research applied to vintage fashion; the Synthesis Areas, where exhibitors present their most representative samples; the Linen Dream Lab by Celc Area, dedicated to linen, and the Special Areas, with the Japan and Korea Observatories and, last but not least, Origin Passion and Beliefs.

Among its visitors, Milano Unica has a soft spot in its heart for youth: students and emerging talents representing the future of the fashion industry. Projects and creations resulting from theme-based workshops on fashion and design were presented in spaces dedicated to the Milan Polytechnic and comON.

Moreover, some of them gave us their impression on Milano Unica and what they particularly liked about the Aree Tendenze and Sustainability Area.

On Tour, a regular appointment at Milano Unica’s summer editions, focused on the Piedmont region: its history, culture, landscape and entrepreneurial tradition, without ever neglecting the exceptional tastes of its wines and food.

Thanks to an involving multi-sensory path, On Tour guests had a chance to come to know the different souls of this region. A final toast was made to the 80th edition of Ideabiella.
